A personal philosophic expression of what I believe is the infinite source of all we do and achieve: The Idea.
Thought, beginning like a glowing seed in the male figure’s head flows around and back through his hands, where with the amorphous masses that represent any kind of abstraction or matter is transformed into all we create, springing upward like an endless fountain. I symbolise humans in ideal perfection by creating the man to look like the classical image of a God-like figure.
I put woman nurturing family, in the middle of a driving cog and coloured them to emphasis my belief that females are the core of our existence. The faces-within-faces form is a reference to other relationships including friends and colleagues with whom we all inter-depend. We are social beings.
The big cog then drives all we create. I built the story based on the paper industry, shown with swirling sheets of the material, references to electric motors, cutting mechanisms and other machinery. There are also references to digital intelligence with numbers and symbols spread throughout. It winds and twirls off in all directions into infinity.
The work was created piecemeal over a period of more than 10 years and is technically the most complicated piece ever done. Australian Blue Lake Paper Mill, handmade 100% cotton rag papers weighing 1000gsm, it is surface sized and requires only regular dusting to keep clean.
