Publishing Commission for Australian Geographic Magazine
Made of various handmade and machine papers on a Hemp paper backing sculpted to accurately imitate bark. On close inspection, you will see every detail of the cicadas including the minute newly hatched nymphs dropping from the tree where they hatched. The soil of the insert depicting the nymph underground is created with a deeply pitted recycled paper from India. The transparent wings and eyes are made from glassine paper. It is precisely realistic and accurate enough to believe the entire work is from real elements.
